B’nei Mitzvah Tutor/Coordinator
Job Description
B’nai Mitzvah Tutors are part of our team of educators who support students while they are preparing to become B’nei Mitzvah. Tutors work one-on-one with students. The hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 3-6pm. Tutors report to Cantor Goldman who oversees the B’nai Mitzvah program.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead b’nei mitzvah students through individual tutoring following designated portions on our b’nei mitzvah google drive folder. Tutor is responsible for teaching Torah & Haftarah. They will be provided the same recordings the students learn from on our confidential google drive.
• Ensure students have access to recordings on google drive
• Keep weekly notes on Google drive of students lessons
• Attend monthly meetings with b’nei mitzvah staff to share about students progress
• Log working hours on paycom
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Fluency in Torah & Haftarah trope according to the Binder/Avery system of cantillation; Hebrew reading ability
• Experience working with students with special needs preferred
• Comfort teaching Jewish content anchored in Reform theology and ideology
• Must enjoy working with children and keep information on students’ learning needs private.
• Comfort in using google drive and open to learning outlook calendar.
Timeline
• Beginning 6 months out, students meet weekly with tutors for 20 minutes.
• Beginning 5 months out, students add an additional 20 minutes with our prayer tutor.
• The final 2 weeks students will stop seeing the tutors and finish with the officiating presence on the bima.
• Cantor Goldman checks in with students and conveys updates to parents.
Payscale
We are able to pay $50.00 per hour for tutoring
**There is an openness for this position to also become a b’nai mitzvah coordinator for the right candidate.
