Job Description
Congregation Leyv Ha-Ir, (Heart of the City), a Reconstructionist congregation located in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Philadelphia, is looking for a cantorial soloist for either the 2023 High Holy Days, festivals and monthly Friday night services. or only the High Holidays, we are open to both.
We are a small congregation which welcomes unaffiliated Jews to our High Holy Day services, which are held at the First Unitarian Church and on zoom. Several hundred worshipers attend these services virtually or in person.
Compensation for cantorial services for the High Holy Days (Rosh Hashanah first and second day, Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur) ranges from five thousand ($5,000) to seven thousand five hundred ($7,500) depending upon experience. Reimbursement for travel expenses and overnight accommodations is negotiable.
We are also seeking a cantorial soloist for festivals and our once a month Shabbat services. We would prefer one person who can fulfill both roles, but will also consider candidates who are only available for the High Holy Days. Compensation for festival and/or Shabbat services range from two hundred and fifty dollars ($250) to five hundred dollars ($500) each, depending upon qualifications and the demands of the program.
These additional cantorial services are:
1. Assisting the rabbi at Friday night Shabbat service once a month, October through May, in person at the 1901 JFK Co-Op Community Room and/or on-line.
2. Assisting the rabbi at services for Hanukah and Purim, and conducting Tisha B’Av services, in-person and/or on-line.
3. Participating at the in-person Passover Community Seder on the second night of Passover, beginning in 2024.
