Part Time Cantorial Soloist
Temple Emanu-El of Marblehead, MA

Temple Emanu-El, a 550-family inclusive Reform synagogue in Marblehead, Massachusetts, is seeking an experienced, part-time Cantorial Soloist with a love of Reform Jewish music and worship to join our collaborative team, beginning July 2024, start date can be flexible. This position will report to our Senior Rabbi and Executive Director.

Role Responsibilities (at minimum):
-Under the supervision and guidance of our Senior Rabbi, work collaboratively to create, develop, and lead worship experiences that include musical Friday evening Shabbat services, holiday celebrations, and High Holiday services. We use Miskhan T’filah and Mishkan HaNefesh as our prayer books.
-Create weekly service outlines in coordination with Senior Rabbi.
-Lead music at Saturday morning B’nai Mitzvah services (approximately 10-12 a year), occasionally Saturday morning Shabbat Services and Saturday evening Havdalah Services.

Additional Role Responsibilities if applicable:
-Support and lead our music affinity group through meetings, programs, and special services.
-Assemble and direct a volunteer choir/children’s choir by (1) building community through a shared love of music, (2) coordinating, reviewing and rehearsing the choir’s repertoire (3) adding new music and convening the group for rehearsals a minimum of once/month and (4) leading the choir during services (approximately four times a year).
-Lead weekly music classes for Religious School students for Grades pre-kindergarten through 6th. Provide music during Religious School services on Sundays and Wednesdays. –Coordinate musical learning and engagement programs for the Religious School.
-Lead tot/baby musical programming.
-Provide music at other Temple functions and community events.

Skills:
-Ability to build quality relationships with members of all ages. An appreciation of diversity, including knowledge and care for inclusive practices
-Passion for Jewish music and worship with demonstrable experience leading and developing prayer services based on Reform practice.
-Excellent knowledge of Reform repertoire.
-A skilled teacher who is excited to introduce new music is a plus.
-Ability to play guitar and/or piano comfortably and fluently.
-Demonstrated experience communicating and collaborating with professional and lay partners.
-Experience leading a choir and/or band; ability to work collaboratively and comfortably with instrumentalists is a plus.
-Comfort with technology and sound equipment, including the ability to utilize and navigate the many facets of Zoom and YouTube. The ability to work with our production/technology support to ensure all systems work as best they can both at home and in our Sanctuary.

Compensation: Determined by role that is established based on responsibilities above, ranging from $50,000 – $75,000 and commensurate with experience.

Hours: Determined by role that is established, ranging from 3-20 hours per week depending on responsibilities determined.
