Cantorial Soloist
Job Description
We are seeking an energetic Cantorial Soloist to work on a part-time basis with our Rabbi as an integral part of the Temple’s worship and religious education leadership.
The Cantorial Soloist will create an environment in which music enriches our worship and life cycle events and invites all congregants to participate in our services. We seek a Cantorial Soloist who also will help guide our religious school students in all phases of their religious education.
Temple Beth Ohr is a URJ-affiliated Reform Jewish Temple in La Mirada. We are an intimate congregation of around 140 households. Our congregation is comprised of congregants that span the generations: young families, those with adult children, empty nesters and active seniors. Temple Beth Ohr is a place of creative, innovative, and inspirational Reform Judaism.
Duties Include:
Avodah
In collaboration with the Rabbi, the Cantorial Soloist will be a creative leader in the design and expression of music in worship services. The Cantorial Soloist will coordinate Yamim Noraim Choir rehearsals. The Cantorial Soloist will support Temple and Auxiliary activities as needed.
Chinuch
The Cantorial Soloist is the musical leader of our Religious School and Hebrew Lab and will implement our music curricula that brings the joy of Jewish music to our students.
The Cantorial Soloist will participate directly in leading various youth services, vocal ensembles, classroom, and small group interactions including Religious School morning t’fillah and Hebrew Lab ma’ariv worship services.
The Cantorial Soloist will be a coordinator and partner in the Hebrew Lab and will work directly with the students teaching them Torah & Haftarah trope and reviewing the Hebrew liturgy in preparation for their B’nai Mitzvah.
Simchot v’ Avelut
The Cantorial Soloist will be a regular member of our pastoral team, and will be welcomed as co-officiant at members’ life-cycle events.
The ability to comfortably and fluently play guitar is a must!

Compensation
$28,500 – $32,000 – Paid Sick Leave and Paid Vacation.
