Tifereth Israel

Tifereth Israel has anchored the Jewish presence in the District of Columbia for over 100 years. As a Conservative congregation, we are committed to Jewish law and to engagement with the wider world. We cherish Torah, service and deeds of kindness.  We are children, teens, younger and older adults; diverse in our expression of Judaism and cultural background; single, partnered, married, and intermarried; people with and currently without disabilities; lesbian, gay, bisexual, heterosexual, transgender and others.  We believe in enriching our lives through prayer, study and celebration; educating children and adults so we all can experience the gifts of Judaism; taking inspiration from Jewish law and history to work for justice and protect the environment; treating all genders equally in ritual and communal life; removing economic and accessibility barriers to participation and recognition, and building connections between religious communities.  Every member of Tifereth Israel makes our communal life richer, whether at services or religious school, on volunteer duty, or in the small and not-so-small everyday interactions that allow us to honor the divine image in every person.
