Introduction:
Temple Chai is a deeply musical community seeking a Pianist / Choir Director to lead our ensemble and accompany our Cantor. Our last Pianist & Choir Director chose to retire after 15 years with our community. Thank you for considering this position.

Job Description:
Lead choir rehearsals while accompanying on piano. Preparing the Temple Choir for its participation in all services as determined and required by the clergy. Collaborating closely with the Cantor on interpretation, tempo, Hebrew pronunciation, spiritual meaning and tradition, etc of the music.

Partnership with the Cantor in preparing and directing the annual Purimspiel play.

Participating in Prayer Lab services as required.

Being a part of the team for additional extra-liturgical musical activities as requested by clergy, such as concerts, fundraisers, special events, recording sessions, etc.

Start Date: Summer 2023
Supervisor: Cantor Ross Wolman
Hours: It varies from month to month. The choir sings 4-5 times each year and takes a few weeks off here and there between performance dates. Generally, there is no activity during the summer until early August when High Holy Day rehearsals begin. This may shift slightly with the Jewish calendar.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience & qualifications

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in music preferred
Professional music experience and training
Demonstrated skill and proficiency at the keyboard
Ability to read music and create simple accompaniments from lead sheets
Ability to improvise || Ability to transpose || Ability to sight-read
Ability to accompany volunteer singers/musicians
Knowledge of Hebrew not required
