Job Description

Temple Beth David, a vibrant, welcoming, and growing Reform synagogue in Westwood,
MA, is seeking a part-time song leader/cantorial soloist/cantor/musical rabbi for
2025-2026. Our community of 260 families loves to sing, and we look forward to singing
with you! Our inviting and flexible sanctuary is conducive to a variety of creative worship
experiences. This position will be a core part of our leadership and visioning team.

Responsibilities Include:

● Musical Prayer Leadership
○ Collaborate with our Rabbi to plan Shabbat services and holiday celebrations
○ Co-lead services, leading the congregation in spiritually uplifting and
participatory prayer and song
■ Shabbat evening services (about 2-3 per month, this is flexible)
■ Shabbat morning services (about 16 with b’nai mitzvah per year and 2
other community Shabbat mornings, Tot Shabbat)
■ Holidays including Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Purim
■ Partner with talented musicians
■ Possible additional lifecycle support
○ Help integrate Jewish music into synagogue life and inspire and connect with
people in the congregation

● Teach and lead music in our Shorashim Religious School on Sunday mornings
(about 16-20 sessions)
○ Co-lead opening blessings and prayers including parents, collaborate with
Director of Congregational Learning to connect Jewish music to Jewish life
and learning curriculum, inspire and energize children
○ Be part of b’nai mitzvah Shabbat retreat
○ Additional teaching and musical opportunities are available during our
Wednesday evening teen education program

● B’nai Mitzvah Tutoring
○ Tutor bar/bat/bet mitzvah students in prayers, Torah and Haftarah, and
provide recordings, along with another tutor
○ Support the tutoring process including communications with parents, rabbi
and staff
○ Connect with students and families to help create a meaningful lifecycle
experience

Skills Desired:
● Passion for Jewish music and prayer and welcoming people to add their voice
● Musical skills and experience including strong vocals and ability to play guitar
● Knowledge of traditional and contemporary Jewish music and Hebrew
● Ability to connect with people of all ages, build relationships, teach, and embrace
diverse backgrounds
● Ability to work collaboratively and partner with rabbi and staff
● Strong organizational and communication skills
● Ability to chant Torah and Haftarah is a plus

Important Priorities:
● We are looking for a musical leader and collaborative team player and to join our
warm and welcoming staff and community. This position is flexible depending on
your interests and availability.
● Our community is growing, especially families with young children. Our Shorashim
Religious School currently has 155 students grades K-12. Additional musical
opportunities in our Shalom Corner Early Learning Center are available.
● Rabbi Karen Citrin values creative Jewish music and will welcome you as a partner
and mentor.

Compensation:
● Determined by role and responsibilities and commensurate with experience, ranging
from 10-25 hours per week depending on responsibilities, primarily September-June.
Paid time off, professional development, health insurance and other benefits
depending on hours. We are open to splitting the position with the right people, and
there is potential growth including High Holy Days.
