Job Description

The Song Leader at The Stamford JCC is a dynamic, multifaceted role responsible for planning, supervising, and implementing music programs and activities across various departments, including Jewish Experiences, Camp, Early Learning, Performing Arts, and Enrichment Programming. This position involves leading musical activities, fostering a love for music, and integrating Jewish traditions, culture, and experiences into the musical experience for participants from birth through adulthood.

Key Responsibilities

Program Planning and Implementation
• Develop and execute music programs and activities for all age groups, from infants to adults, with a focus on birth to life programming.
• Create lesson plans that incorporate Jewish traditions, culture, and experiences into the music curriculum.
• Participate in and lead activities across departments, ensuring that music is a central and engaging part of the JCC experience.
Leadership and Performance
• Lead music sessions during camp, early learning programs, and other JCC events, ensuring that all participants are engaged and having fun.
• Perform and teach guitar as a primary instrument in various settings and programs. Ability to play piano is preferred, and proficiency in drums is a nice to have.
• Collaborate with staff across departments to integrate music into broader program activities and themes.

Community Building and Education
• Foster a sense of community and belonging through music, encouraging participation and collaboration among all age groups.
• Develop relationships with participants and their families to understand their musical interests and needs.
• Promote a positive and inclusive environment where all participants feel valued and supported.
Event Participation and Coordination
• Plan and lead musical performances for JCC events, family Shabbats, holiday programming, and other special occasions.
• Collaborate with staff from different departments to organize and execute community-wide events that feature musical components.
• Play a role in The J at the J after-school enrichment program, enhancing the musical experience for participants.

Administrative Duties
• Maintain records of music activities, including attendance, progress, and feedback from participants.
• Ensure that all musical equipment and materials are well-maintained and available for use.
• Assist in the evaluation and improvement of music programs based on feedback and observations.

Qualifications
• Educational Background: A degree in Music Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in leading music programs for various age groups, particularly in community center or educational settings, is highly desirable.
• Skills:
Strong musical skills, including proficiency in playing guitar (required) and singing
Ability to play piano is preferred, and proficiency in drums is a nice to have
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Adaptability to work across different age groups and departments

Additional Information

• Work Distribution: At least 75% of the job will involve direct service, teaching, and performing for birth-to-life programming.
• Work Environment: The Song Leader will work in various settings across different departments, including classrooms, outdoor camp environments, and community event spaces.
• Schedule: This role may require flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate various program schedules and special events.
