Pressman Academy is an innovative and engaging Jewish Day School dedicated to developing minds, nurturing hearts, and instilling Jewish values. Located in the Pico-Robertson area of Los Angeles, Pressman Academy has approximately 500 students in its Early Childhood Center through eighth grade. Pressman Academy is known for its rigorous academics, strong social/emotional curriculum, Hebrew immersion program, and warm community. Pressman Academy is affiliated with the Solomon Schechter Day School Network and is connected to Temple Beth Am.
Position:
The candidate we hire for the General and Judaic Studies Music Teacher position will be responsible for all elementary (K-5th) music instruction. This instruction will include, but not be limited to:
Exposure to fundamental musical elements
Basic instrumentation
Individual and choral voice
Memorization and performance of common American classic songs and Israeli songs revolving around patriotism and holidays.
Additionally, the GS/JS Music Teacher will be obligated to attend/lead rehearsals, events, and celebrations outside of their weekly instructional responsibilities. Though somewhat rare, the GS/JS Music Teacher will be expected to lead after-school and/or weekend performances.
The ideal candidate should be familiar with both American and Hebrew songs and must have the ability to sing in both English and Hebrew. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate who is fluent in both Hebrew and English. The General and Judaic Studies Music Teacher should also be able to melodically lead Jewish Prayer.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years music teaching experience, preferably with K-5th grade students
Good English reading, writing, and speaking skills
Good Hebrew reading, writing and speaking skills
Preferred Qualifications:
BA required in Education, Music or related field
Previous experience in a Jewish Day School setting
An elementary teaching credential
Experience in Jewish life and learning
Compensation:
There are a few possibilities when it comes to the schedule for this position. Please indicate on your cover letter if you are interested in a part-time position (~21 hours per week), a full-time position, or either.
Part-time positions start at $40,000 annually. Full-time positions start at $65,000 annually.
