Camp Young Judaea Sprout Lake is in the majestic Hudson Valley of New York on 86 acres. For over 45 years, we have been known for excelling in creating a safe space for children through our dedication to their emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. We inspire Jewish children to live their best lives, connect to Israel and the Jewish people, and to make a difference in the world. Our intimate camp size (maximum 225 campers per session), fun, innovative and inclusive programming, and state-of-the-art sports sets us apart.
Position Overview:
The Song Leader at Camp Young Judaea Sprout Lake will be responsible for creating a dynamic, joyful musical atmosphere that enhances the overall camp experience. The Song Leader will lead music programming, including daily prayer services, music programming, Shabbat services, song sessions, and special events. They will play a key role in building a spirited and cohesive camp community through music, instilling a love for Jewish culture, values, and song.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead daily song sessions, integrating Hebrew and Jewish songs to inspire campers and staff.
• Organize and lead daily and Shabbat services, including Kabbalat Shabbat and Havdalah, creating a meaningful and celebratory atmosphere.
• Teach and mentor campers in singing and rhythm, encouraging musical participation and personal expression.
• Create a welcoming and inclusive musical environment, where all campers feel encouraged to participate.
• Help with additional camp activities as needed to support the camp community.
Qualifications:
• Experience in song leading, preferably in a camp, school, or synagogue setting.
• Proficiency in guitar (preferred) or another portable instrument.
• Knowledge of Jewish music and tradition, with an ability to teach Hebrew songs and Jewish cultural music.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and energize large groups of children and staff.
• A passion for working with children, fostering community, and creating a fun and supportive environment.
• A positive, enthusiastic attitude and flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced camp setting.
• Knowledge of basic Jewish prayers and blessings.
Requirements:
• Available to work full-time during the summer camp season.
• Must live on-site at Camp Young Judaea Sprout Lake during the camp session. Our dates are June 18th- August 18th. Preference for a full summer song leader, but we will consider partial summer.
Compensation:
Compensation is competitive and includes room and board for the duration of the camp session.
