Summer Camp Songleader at Camp Tawonga
Job Description
Is there a better job in the world than a Camp Tawonga Song Leader? We don’t think so!
Where else can you play Debbie Friedman, The Grateful Dead and Alicia Keys all in the same set?!?
Tawonga Song Leaders bring music to camp in many different ways. Everyday after breakfast and dinner we have all camp song sessions in the Dining Hall with lots of singing and dancing. Songs range from traditional Hebrew to classic oldies to current popular hits. Song Leaders plan their sets and lead song session, sometimes teaching new songs and sometimes just rocking out to the ones everyone knows. Song Leaders also lead 45-75 minutes activity blocks with cabin groups. These “blocks” range from music games with little kids, to poetry and song writing with older kids, to just serenading a cabin group while they stargaze or roast marshmallows. Every week when Shabbat comes, Song Leaders lead an extra long and energetic song session on Friday night and support with music during our torah service on Saturday mornings. Song Leaders live in shared housing with other staff and also provide other camp support like participating in all camp activities and providing occasional coverage for counselors.
Camp Tawonga Song Leaders are typically in college or have recently graduated and have a deep love of music, children and nature. Camp Tawonga is located just west of Yosemite National Park and has the beautiful Tuolumne river running through our property with abundant swimming holes. During days off, many Tawonga staff go on adventures exploring Yosemite or the San Francisco Bay Area (which is 3ish hours away).
Applications for Camp Tawonga are live on December 2nd and can be found on our website at www.tawonga.org or linked below.
