Job Description

SONGLEADER
Camp Havaya (South Sterling, PA)

Camp Havaya is all about the joy of summer camp and becoming the best possible version of yourself. Being a staff member is fun and fulfilling — and it’s also hard work. As a team, we thrive because each one of us brings something special to our incredibly accepting and dynamic community. Working at Camp isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to change a child’s life; it’s not just about building a resume, but about developing character. Put simply: it’s one of the most memorable and rewarding experiences you’ll ever have.

The songleader plays an integral role in Camp: strengthening a culture of music, leading and teaching both Jewish and secular songs/music, contributing to the positive experience of campers and staff members, helping to create the atmosphere of Shabbat through music, and creatively integrating music into Camp traditions.

Responsibilities include:
– Leading periodic song sessions (including lunch song sessions throughout the week)
– Preparing and leading a music or songleading elective for campers (one hour per day)
– Co-leading and supporting Shabbat and weekday services, in partnership with other musicians and prayer leaders (Friday evening, Saturday morning, havdalah, and weekday)
– Accompanying spiritual moments during the session, as needed
– Leading campfire singing on Saturday nights
– Engage other musicians on staff to lead music throughout the session

Qualifications include:
– Experience leading groups of people in song
– Strong desire to work with youth
– Knowledge and ability to lead Shabbat services
– Ideally several years of experience playing guitar or piano

The songleader lives onsite, on our beautiful campus in the Pocono Mountains, for the duration of the summer season (June 17 – August 19, 2024). Room and board is provided, and weekly time off is given. To learn more about Havaya, check out our website: CampHavaya.org/staff.
